I’m pretty sure we have all booked a flight without really knowing where and what we want to do. If you are anything like me, you might even wait until the last minute to actually start looking at what you want to visit. I do that all the time. It even gets me in trouble with my family and friend, because they always ask me: so what’s your plan? And I’m like, don’t know, don’t have any.

So here’s 4 tips to help plan for your future trips.

1- Do your research

Some places are fine to explore but others are a little more dangerous. It's really important that you know what you are getting yourself into, before making irrational decisions. Read blogs, ask around for tips, read the latest news... there is so many ways you can learn about the places you want to visit. Make a list of things you want to do, and let your family/friends know that you will be vigilant during your entire trip. There is something about them knowing that you aware of the places you should and shouldn’t go that puts them at ease. Which is what you want right?

2- Learn a little of the language

You are most likely to be travelling to a destination where you don't speak the language or where people don't speak English. If they do speak English, fine, you are lucky. But if people don’t, that's when you can get in trouble. Learn a few key words, hello, goodbye, thank you, bathroom... Just to name a few. But honestly there is nothing worse than having to pee, and not being able to ask where the bathrooms are. Trust me, you don't want to have to meme that.

3-Learn the currency

There is nothing more annoying that the feeling of not understanding how much you are paying or how much things are worth. It can help you negotiate, it can help you not get ripped off (it has happen to me...), it can also just help you to know if restaurants are expensive or not without having to take out your phone and checking the exchange rate. If you’re like me and your really bad a remembering how the exchange rate works, just download *apps* to help you out.

4- Maps app!

Number 4 is probably the app that I use the most when I'm travelling. So let's say that you’ve made yourself a little list of things and places you really want to see. Enter all of these places in a map app (I use maps.me, but there are others) and save each and every one of those places into the map. Also, save your hostel/airbnb/accommodation too and make sure that you look out of what's close to each other. You can save so much time by just knowing what attraction is close to each other and plan your days around that map.
