Keep in mind, I was in Costa Rica about 6 years ago, so somethings might have changed. This country is amazing and completely worth a visit. I stayed 3 weeks and I would have stayed much longer if I could have. These are the top highlights of my trip, and I would suggest you try them all:

1- Stay at Finca Exotica Ecolodge

Finca Exotica was the last hostel I stayed in during my trip, it’s located in Osa Peninsula of the country and it was my all time favorite hostel of my trip. It’s completely secluded from the rest of the town and the actual “rooms” you sleep in are even further into the jungle. These mini cabins are open-air; the one I stayed in was about 6 feet off the ground. You have nets around your bed to protect yourself from the bugs at night, in the morning you will be woken up by screaming monkeys in the middle of the jungle. It sounds intense, but trust me,  it will be the highlight of your stay! Book your next stay Here.

2- Manuel Antonio Park.

I believe that this was one of the touristiest thing you can do in Costa Rica, but it’s worth it. The park offers different paths you can follow that bring you to different viewing points. While you walk around, you can spot monkeys, exotic birds, frogs and much more awesome creatures you can’t find just anywhere. If you’re lucky, you might even see a sloth! I didn’t get to see them, but I got to smell them, because yes, they are cute, but they are really smelly. Check it out here.

3- Try Surfing

So if you already surf Costa Rica’s beaches are some of the best places to do it,  if you are just a beginner like me (meaning you’ve never surfed in your entire life) Costa Rica is the best place to start. Warning; just be super careful because in some places the current can be extremely strong and the last thing you want to do is to get lost at sea. I have a friend to whom it has happened and she told me the trick was to let yourself float in the direction of the shore, stay calm and NEVER (I really mean it) NEVER try to swim back, you will get exhausted and probably make it worse. Trust me.

4- Samara

This is a small town that I really recommend staying at. Six years ago, when I visited this town, there weren’t many tourists and you could really feel the authenticity of the Pura Vida lifestyle. Of course it might have changed a bit since my last visit, but I still believe that the town is worth visiting. It's the perfect place to just lay back and enjoy life. You can swim in the ocean, surf, eat amazing food, go to parties and dance all night. If you want somewhere to relax and just be in the moment, this is the place to be.
